We appreciate the interest in promoting and protecting the quality and recognition of Colombian coffee.

Bear in mind that the Colombian Coffee logo is a registered trademark of the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia – Fondo Nacional Del Café, and as such, its use by third parties is subject to specific obligations, agreed to in a License Agreement Brand.

REQUIREMENTS

1. The Logo

is licensed only for use in 100% Colombian coffee.

2. Only roasters

who handle and process coffee directly are eligible to sign the contract.

The owners (holder) of brands must make their requests through roasters.

3. Each roaster

agrees to pay COP $ 200,000 / USD 100 / EUR 100 annually for each brand and territory included in the contract, as a reimbursement of expenses incurred by the Federación de Cafeteros de Colombia in the coffee quality controls.

4. In the event

that a roaster wishes to trade products with the Café de Colombia Logo in the European Union, must first obtain the authorisation to use the Colombian Coffee Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). To do this, you must certify your product through the Cafecert Foundation.

5. If the roaster

plans to market products with the Café de Colombia Logo in Colombia, Peru, Ecuador or Bolivia, must obtain authorisation to use the Colombian Coffee Designation of Origin (DO). For other territories no additional certifications are required.

6. For those coffees

grown in the Coffee Cultural Landscape region, it is also possible to request authorisation to use the Paisaje Cultural Cafetero (PCC) logo. To do this, must fill in the “G” point of the “Future licensee´s questionnaire”.

PROCEDURE

When the roaster is legally registered, he must provide:

  • Copy of the Company’s Certificate of Existence and Legal Representation (Chamber of Commerce) with a date not exceeding one month.
  • Copy of the company’s legal representative citizenship card.
  • Copy of the updated Single Tax Registry (RUT)

When the roaster is a naturalized person, they must provide:

  • Copy of the roaster’s citizenship card.
  • Copy of the updated Single Tax Registry (RUT)
  • Creation of debtors (Download here) filled out.
  • In case the owner of the brand is different from the roaster, it is necessary to attach a copy of the Certificate of Existence and a copy of the Certificate of the Legal Representative of the company that owns the brand. If it is a naturalized person, a copy of the citizenship card must be sent.

For Non-Colombian licensees

  • Questionnaire for future licensees duly filled out.
  • Information format of the owner of the completed trademark.

  • Copy of company registration certificate (Business Registration, Good Standing certificate, or other, such as W9 format, for Americans).
  • Tax ID number of the licensee
  • Document that demonstrates the person who will sign the contract has the power to sign agreements on behalf of the company. Such certification must be issued by the company.

  • In case the owner of the brand is different from the roaster, it is necessary to attach a copy of the legal documentation of the owner of the private brand

2. Roaster’s registry (Only for Colombians):

Simultaneously, it is possible to advance the process of registering your company as a roaster, for which it is necessary to contact ici.registro@cafedecolombia.com   Officials of this area of ​​the Federation will request certain information and documentation in order to be able to register.

3. Obtaining the certification and authorization of the Café de Colombia DO or PGI use.

It is necessary to fill out the form “Colombia, Perú, Bolivia, Ecuador – DO Format” and send it to propiedad.intelectual@cafedecolombia.com for review. In the event that your product is going to be traded in the European Union, you must also complete the “PGI Form – European Union” format and send it to propiedad.intelectual@cafedecolombia.com for review. Likewise, it is necessary to contact the Cafecert Foundation by email: cafecert@fundacioncafecert.org . The officials of this entity will request additional documentation and information.

4. Approval of the Trademark Committee and submission of the Contract.

Once the requirements have been completed, the Trademarks and Patents Committee of the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros will review your application and if approved, a Brand License Agreement will be elaborated for your signature.
