FNC and Lavazza Foundation benefit coffee farmers in Huila

This alliance confirms the great affinity of interests between both institutions in terms of sustainability, for the benefit of coffee communities.

The Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC), through the Huila Departmental Coffee Growers Committee, and the Italian Lavazza Foundation work hand in hand in the implementation of the project “Coffee: A model of prosperity and peace,” for the benefit of coffee growers in the municipalities of Tello, Garzón and La Plata.

Resources worth about USD 330,500 will be invested in reforestation of 35 hectares and the construction of three post-harvesting micro plants in the three municipalities of Huila, which will help coffee-growing families to improve coffee production.

The project also has a component of social strengthening of the coffee communities, actions that will contribute in an holistic way to improve the quality of life of these communities while respecting the environment.

As part of its mission to contribute to Colombian coffee farmers’ wellbeing, in recent years the FNC strategy has focused on improving the profitability of producers, a strategy supported by four sustainability pillars: economic, social, environmental and institutional governance.

For its part, the Lavazza Foundation, founded in 2004, promotes and carries out projects of economic, social and environmental sustainability in favor of coffee -producing communities around the world, which confirms the great affinity of interests between both institutions.

In addition, the effectiveness and transparency in implementation of development projects, for the benefit of the coffee communities, has turned the FNC into a strategic ally of key players in the industry.
