ExpoEspeciales Café de Colombia to Be Held From October 5 to 8

As one of the main innovations, the first national coffee quality competition will be held this year. The 11th Colombian Barista Championship and the 6th National Cup Tasters Championship are two other great-tradition events that will take place within the framework of this important expo.

The 9th edition of the International Specialty Coffee Expo, ExpoEspeciales Café de Colombia, will be held from October 5 to 8, 2016, in Corferias, the International Business and Exhibition Center of the Colombian capital.

ExpoExpeciales Café de Colombia has consolidated as the most important specialty coffee expo in Latin America and the Caribbean. This year, over 100 exhibitors are expected, representing different links of the coffee production and commercial chain.

The number of national and foreign visitors received every year, its outstanding academic agenda and the possibility of doing business at the highest level, with the help of business matchmaking forums, have helped position the expo as an event of great tradition in the global coffee industry.

The expo is organized by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) as part of its strategy to improve profitability of coffee farmers by promoting and highlighting the production of coffees of the highest quality.

Two events of great tradition that have also consolidated at the expo and that every year confirm growth of the specialty coffee industry in the country, as well as sophistication of consumption, are the Colombian Barista Championship and the National Cup Tasters Championship, reaching this year their eleventh and sixth edition, respectively.

The eighth edition of ExpoEspeciales in 2015, which hosted the IV Convention of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA), recorded the second largest attendance in the history of this event: 13,000 national and foreign attendees.

First national coffee quality competition led entirely by the FNC
As the main innovation for this year’s expo, the event will host the awards ceremony of the first national competition of quality coffee, organized entirely by the FNC to reward the best coffees in the country.

Reception of coffees will be open from June 1 to August 15, 2016, and all producers interested in participating are already being invited to send their lots.

For the first time, five coffees in the category of Small Lots will be awarded: acidity, body, mildness, balance and exotic, as well as the best estate coffee in the category of Large Lots (minimum 25,000 kg and maximum 27,500 kg).

The competition, among other objectives, seeks to project both nationally and internationally exceptional coffees, trade them in expeditious ways and concentrate regional and departmental initiatives into a single national competition.
