Colombia will host 1st World Coffee Producers Forum

The attendance of about 500 representatives of coffee-producing countries, as well as of relevant actors of the coffee industry in the United States, Canada, the EU, Great Britain, and Asia is expected.

In July, Colombia will host the first World Coffee Producers Forum, organized by the coffee-producing countries themselves, and which will bring together key actors of the coffee chain and the global industry.

The Forum, to be held from July 10 to 12, 2017, in the Intercontinental Hotel, in the city of Medellin, will address the main challenges and problems of coffee farming, and seeks to identify strategies for a better distribution of value and responsibility among all actors, in search of sustainability of the global chain from seed to cup.

Economic sustainability of producers, rural development, climate change adaptation, price volatility, generational change, and co-responsibility in the value chain will be some of the topics to be addressed, analyzed, and discussed.

Among expected results, the Forum aims at building, with the help of representatives of the different links (exporters, importers, roasters, traders, etc.), an accurate diagnosis of the main challenges of the coffee value chain to achieve future sustainability for the benefit of everybody, starting by producers and involving consumers.

The forum will attract representatives of 40 coffee-producing countries, including Colombia, Brazil, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Cameroon, Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Angola, Togo, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, and China.

It will also bring together key actors of the coffee industry based in the US, Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Asia.

Colombian coffee growers, representatives and officers of Colombia’s coffee institutions, NGOs, foundations, scholars, multilateral organizations, certifiers, verifiers, public entities, and banks will also attend the forum.

Attendees will be able to take part in a tour in Antioquia’s coffee region to get to know what lies behind Colombian coffee and to taste coffees from the different countries participating in the forum.

Because of its significance, it will be one of the most important events of the global coffee industry next year, organized for the first time in Colombia.

Members of the 100% Program interested in participating in the Forum are invited to register on the webpage of the event, since it will be a pleasure for us, as always, to receive them in Colombia.
